Curriculum Statement

Curriculum Aims 

To provide a curriculum that:

1. Raises academic attainment
2. Enables every student to reach his/her potential through high quality learning and teaching
3. Provides extra curricula activities that stimulate and encourage students to learn outside the classroom
4. Embodies our maxim to ‘Learn, Lead, Inspire’ 

Curriculum Objectives 

Our curriculum will strive to:

• Meet the personalised needs of specific groups of learners of different abilities to raise achievement 
• Enable learners to access a flexible curriculum where ever possible
• Focus on English and Maths as the most important subjects based on knowledge, skills and understanding
• Keep learners motivated and interested to enable and develop independent learning
• Inspire able, gifted and talented students while supporting those learners who find aspects of learning difficult
• Be as consistent as possible while recognising the changing needs of individual cohorts and national policy
• Promote opportunities for students to lead and inspire others
• Attempt to meet the reasonable requests of staff (including part time colleagues) while recognising the needs of the students and the timetable  with a recognition of the importance of stability for students
• Prioritise (in order) Year 11 and Year 10 learners (English and Maths), Sixth Form and Year 9, 8 and 7 to ensure good examination results
• Work in partnership with other education establishments

Curriculum Year 7 and 8 2012-13 (50 periods over 2 weeks)

Year 9, 10 and 11 form part of the Key Stage 4 provision based on preference blocks. These are a mixture of BTEC, GCSE and other equivalent qualifications.

Preferences include: Art, Drama, Music, History, Geography, Catering/Hospitality, Sport, ICT, BTEC vocational courses, Design and Technology based subjects, Business, Languages

Year 12 and 13 form part of the post 16 offer based on preferences made during year 11. The areas of study include subjects within Maths, English, Science, PE, Humanities, Technology and the Arts

Level 3 - AS lines    Year 12

• Further Mathematics (AS and A2) is a double option
• Health & Social Care -  Single and / or Double award available

Level 3 – A2 lines Year 13

• Further Mathematics (AS and A2) is a double option

Each Option Line is 8 periods. Enrichment also takes place for every student – 1 period per week / 2 periods per fortnight.
