Year 9 Rugby Team - County Cup Vase Champions!

On Wednesday 29th November the Year 9 boy’s rugby team won the County Cup Vase beating The Oxford Academy 41- 0 in the final at Chipping Norton Rugby Club. The team have not only won the County Cup Vase, but they also reached the North Oxford League semi-finals having finished second in their group. Winning 5 of their 9 games this season. This is a brilliant achievement by a fantastic group of students who have worked incredibly hard to achieve this success.

This also represents a huge turnaround in results for this team, who remarkably are made up almost entirely of non-club players and so school rugby is there only exposure to the sport. At the start of Year 9 the team were still yet to win a competitive game having fallen narrowly short in many of their games during Year 7 and 8. However this group of students have stuck together, worked really hard and shown a huge amount of pride, determination and resilience to perform superbly during Year 9 fixtures and turnaround their fortunes. From winning no games in 2 years, to winning 5 games out of 9 in one season, is a superb achievement. As a PE teacher winning is fantastic, but I have to say seeing the progress, effort and team spirit of this group of boys has been far more rewarding than the results themselves. They should all be very proud of their achievements. Roll on Year 10!
