'Restart a Heart' Day 2017

16th October was Restart a Heart Day, a campaign by the British Heart Foundation and local ambulance trusts to increase knowledge of how to do CPR on a person who has collapsed with a heart attack. A person with a cardiac arrest stands a much greater chance of surviving if someone can begin CPR within 3 minutes, before the paramedics arrive.

All Year 7 learned how to do CPR on Monday. A team of paramedics, fire fighters and PCSO’s were on hand to demonstrate how to give CPR.

“First we watched a very important video on how to do rescue breaths and chest compressions. We got into small groups with the dummies and started to do chest compressions on them. I found this quite hard to push down the right amount. Then we had to do rescue breaths and make sure we saw the chest rise. Then we had to do the two together. I enjoyed doing it and it is possible that I could save someone’s life” -  Kaitlyn

“The video gave detailed instructions which was really helpful. The only bad thing is we found it was quite tiring to do the rescue breaths, so it helps if someone can do it with you” -  Dilakshaan

“I thought it was important to learn CPR because it means we could save someone’s life” -  Alys

Please ask your child to talk through how to do CPR, as this will help them remember what they learned. And visit the British Heart Foundation webpage -

This web page has videos explaining how to do CPR.
