Girls in Engineering Day at Oxford University

On Wednesday 10th May, 3 year 10 and 2 sixth form students went on a day trip to Oxford University Engineering Department. We had a Q & A session with Naomi Climer (a famous female engineer) which was really interesting and really helped us understand more about engineering. We then listened to some fourth year students talking about their engineering projects which they had been working on for the last year. This very informative and demonstrated the broad scope of engineering, from trying to wipe out mosquitoes, to improving human health, to investigating buildings during earthquakes.

We also explored a university college which made us realise that there is more to choosing a university than just subjects.

Finally we went to the 43rd Maurice Lubbock Memorial Lecture presented by Naomi Climer. This was on the new technology being developed for the so-called Internet of Things. Having the Q and A session earlier really helped us follow the lecture and meant we had the confidence to ask questions without feeling stupid. Overall it was a great trip that we all loved and opened our eyes.

Thank you Mr Moss for a brilliant day.

Laura Scaife - Year 10 Student
