Gosford Hill Language Leaders visit to North Kidlington Primary

On Thursday 4th May, we went to North Kidlington Primary School to teach the years 3, 4, 5 and 6 some French. For several weeks we have been preparing lessons to teach them. Hamish, Katie and I taught years 3 and 4 about things in their local town.

The students split into three groups and each of us taught one of them. We taught mostly through verbal techniques, for example repetition Working with primary school children was a pleasant experience because it was different to what I’m used to. I don’t usually get the chance to work with anyone younger than eleven, so year threes were a change.

I learnt that teaching isn’t as easy as it looks because things don’t always go to plan, for example, the games didn’t take as long as we had expected. We had time between the three lessons that we taught. In this time, we could rethink the plan and improve it. This meant the lesson got better each time we repeated it. I found this fun and it was good to experience teaching others because it helped me learn.
