The Oxfordshire Book Awards 2016

Last Wednesday a group of Year 9 and 10s went to Oxford High School in Summertown to watch and listen to selected authors/illustrators receive awards for their outstanding books they have published. All of the authors gave a speech and a few of them even did a drawing activity which gave us as the audience an opportunity to engage and interact with them. The speeches were very inspiring as they told us about their lives before they began writing and some of the obstacles they had to overcome to reach the stage they are at now. For example, one of the writers, Steve Anthony, told us he was colour blind but he didn't let this stop him from reaching his goals. He wrote the book 'Please Mr Panda' whilst incorporating many different colours throughout. After the speeches had finished we went into another room to socialise with other schools whilst eating cake and drinking tea. We had an opportunity to buy books and also get them signed by each of the authors. Overall it was an excellent experience and we enjoyed every minute of it.
