Year 7 Visitor

On Friday 23rd October John Platt shared his life story with Mrs Bushnell’s Year 7 English classes. He has published important sections of his life and taught us about his amazing accomplishments. He was an inspiration to our students and a neighbour to Freya Cooper who is pictured above, who she affectionately calls ‘Grandad’.
Year 7 had been studying ‘A Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. They have researched World War 2 and the prisoner of war camps. John brought in his war memorabilia and explained his life as a British soldier just after the Second World War. John worked as a radio and signal corporal after the Second World War and the driver for the CO.

Comments from the class
“We have learnt about a new role in the army that was very fascinating. It was lovely to see all the badges both he and his foster father had earned throughout their careers.”
“We have learnt that people used to pay money in shillings.”
“We have found out from the food rationing booklets that the quality of food was divided into categories.”
“We now know a good soldier had to obey every instruction that they were given.”
