Year 9 County Cricket Champions

On Friday 11th September the Year 9 cricket team faced Chipping Norton in the County Cup Final at Stratfield Brake.

Chipping Norton opted to field first leaving Alec Puleston and James Bateman to open.  The batting was solid and the top scorers were Kamran Ramzan with 28 and Jack Launchbury with 27.  So Gosford went into the field with a score of 104 to defend.  We kept the field tight with Esah Hakimi getting a wicket in the first over, a great start for Gosford!  Gosford kept the pressure up with good bowling and exceptional fielding.

As we reached the last over Chipping Norton were on 88.  Saul Samuel bowled the last over and dealt with the pressure really well.  As we reached the last bowl Chipping Norton needed 6 off the last ball.  Saul bowled past the bat and straight into Alec Puleston’s gloves.  Gosford had won by 6 runs.  Gosford showed good sportsmanship by thanking the umpires and opposition for a great game.

The County Cup Shield was presented to Captain, James Bateman, which was later given to Dr Bizley by the whole team in his office.  Gosford are now County League Champions for the first time ever.  We hope to continue the winning streak as we approach the Year 9 season!
